Harry Potter actress Emma Watson says her experience with People Tree sustainable fashion company eye-opening —

[Feb. 27]

Harry Potter star Emma Watson, who plays Hermione Granger in the series, recently visited Bangladesh to work on her own line of clothes for the ethical Fair Trade clothing line, People Tree. She had been frustrated by the lack of Fair Trade clothing for people her age and has branded her own “Love from Emma” collection with People Tree.

I didn’t feel that there was a huge amount of clothes out there that are Fair Trade and organic and it’s so great to give people the choice to wear something that makes the world a better place, to wear clothing that does some good. Clothes are fabulous and can transfrom the way someone feels about themselves and you can transfrom someone’s life at the same time, which is a pretty amazing thing to do. said Emma Watson.

“In 2011 the best of fair trade clothing will hit the high streets and the catwalk, moving from the preconceived notion of fair trade clothing as hippie market material to mainstream fashion statements,” notes fairtradeclothing.org.

‘The design process continued with me trying on each and every piece to get the fits just as I wanted them, and then I visited Bangladesh to see the clothing actually being made and meet the people making it. It was an incredible and life-changing experience – I really wish everyone had the chance to see the difference Fair Trade makes with their own eyes,’ femalefirst.co.uk quoted her as saying.

‘Fair trade fashion comes from the villages – and provides a real alternative to working in a garment factory and the harsh environment of living in a slum,’ she added.

Fair Trade organizations like People Tree aim to improve the working conditions and compensation of workers in impoverished areas. Emma Watson is a big supporter of Fair Trade, and her line of “Love from Emma” clothing for People Tree is becoming far more than just a hippie trend. While Emma may be the subject of some racy scandal, we applaud her efforts to support and grow sustainably green and economically fair products that benefit people worldwide as well as the planet.

Keep it up, girl!
