Who is Jerry Lewis? After 45 years wonderful years promoting funding medical treatment and finding a cure for sick children he calls “my kids,” Hollywood comedian and big screen actor Jerry Lewis announced May 16th, 2011 that he will finally be retiring from the TV gig that made him famous. As the most well-known television host on TV, the Labor Day Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon and the name Jerry Lewis have essentially become one in the same. The celebrity senior is not welching out on his commitment to helping kids, though. At 85 years old, the green celebrity issued a statement to the press through the MDA simply calling his retirement “time for an all new Telethon era.”

Huffington Post reported Jerry Lewis statement about what fans can expect for the 2011 telethon gala where he thinks he will be making a final special guest appearance as host:

“As a labor of love, I’ve hosted the annual Telethon since 1966 and I’ll be making my final appearance on the show this year by performing my signature song, `You’ll Never Walk Alone,'” Lewis said of a shortened six-hour primetime broadcast scheduled for Sept. 4.

More importantly could Hines Ward psychologically recover from falling on his dance partner and nearly breaking her neck on Friday the 13th of May in a freak accident?

Host Tom Bergeron was elated to see her on the dance floor and said, “That was a long way from Friday, my friends…”

Len loved it — so did everyone else. He called Kym a floosey and said the dance looked like something from the Karma Sutra.

Bruno loves the dominance theme than emerged in the dance. He said it was like group sex.

Carrie Ann was in tears — so worried about Kym Johnson. He was so pleased with his performance that she brought Hines to tears.

The score? A perfect 10 for the pair.

Amazing star celebs, for sure.

Will their Argentine Tango score be enough to get them from the semi-finals to the finals as crowd favorites?

We certainly hop so, as the NFL football player deserves to score a touchdown and maybe even beat Disney Princess Chelsea Kane to take the Mirror Ball Trophy home.

That’s why his SECOND perfect 30 score was such good news, as it nearly guaranteed him a place in the finals.

Ralph Macchio was happy to get an 8-9-8 from Carrie Ann, Len, and Bruno especially in light of his knee injury that debilitated him last week.

As a well-known and beloved Latin American performer, Carlos Santana was given the Beacon of Change award before the Atlanta Braves’ fifth annual Civil Rights Game on Sunday May 15. While the team focused on their game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Santana used the public speaking opportunity during his award acceptance speech to criticize both residents and politicians of Arizona and Georgia for their new immigration laws. Saying he represented illegal immigrants and was speaking out on behalf of them as well as legal immigrants like himself, the Grammy award-winning artist told the crowd at Turner field, “The people of Arizona, and the people of Atlanta, Georgia, you should be ashamed of yourselves.”

TMZ was one of the first websites to report Kym Johnson — the dance pro the producers of DWTS 2011 paired up with Pittsburgh Steelers football player Hines Ward. According to the site, Kym Johnson, “took a nasty spill while rehearsing with the NFLer for an upcoming show.” The star celebs still had practice scheduled the following day(s), and Kym and Hines both showed up on schedule Sunday May 16th. The only problem? Kym Johnson was wearing a huge neck brace! According to her rep (who spoke to TMZ anticipating the rumor mills picking up the story of the dancing accident and subsequent hospitalization of the dance pro), Johnson was taken to a nearby Los Angeles area hospital for treatment “for precautionary measures to assure she is OK.” But what will an injury at this stage fo the game do to the celebrity couple as far as performance ability? Many celebrity gossip sites and comment rumor mills are saying that Hines and Kym might just be out of the game.

The reason why Kym Johnson having a new injury is a game changer is not because she might not be able to dance or teach or do choreography full bore. It is because of the psychological effects on Hines Ward.
