Katy Perry (who recently split from actor Russell Brand after he filed for divorce last month) has announced that she will not be attending the People’s Choice Awards 2012 — Hollywood’s first big award show of the new year. The famous humanitarian known for her support of the Red Cross has already been nominated for seven awards this year. Last year, she took home awards for Favorite Female Singer and Favorite Online Sensation in a surprise victory over Lady Gaga. So why is she really skipping the awards show in 2012? Most likely because her right-wing Christian parents who seem to hate Jewish people are embarrassing her right now in a very big way. You have to read this story to believe it…

Katy Perry Dad and Russell BrandSo, by now nearly everyone in the United States has heard that sweetheart Katy Perry split up with her new husband Russell Brand after some very big arguments over the Christmas holiday. But, what most people are not aware of is what has happened since the celebrity couple was spotted out in public not wearing their wedding rings and the news hit that the comedian had filed divorce papers in Los Angeles (confirming the rumors they split later that day). Her name is being drug through the mud in part due to her evangelical Christian parents. They have been making themselves famous by betraying their daughter’s confidences and are using the celebrity spotlight to help their ministry prosper — one that bashes people who are Jewish in a very big way.

This year, the usually bright and bubbly Katy Perry took on a somber tone when talking on Twitter. Apologizing for opting out of the awards show, but keeping her fingers crossed for the nominations, she confirmed she won’t be attending. Then, in a very serious tone, the green celebrity added that she wouldn’t tolerate tabloid style gossip about her missing the event (as if waving her finger over her mouth and making a big SHUSH noise would stop people from chatting about her romance troubles, seriously).

According to Hollywood Life:

“Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, ‘close sources’ or my family,” she wrote.

But was she making the shhhhh talk to the hand remark to her fans and gossip columnists like us who faithfully follow the celebrity’s good deeds? We don’t really think so. In all actuality, she seems to have been directly attacking her family and friends who have been betraying her confidence and talking to the paparazzi — acting like they know something.

In the week prior to the tweet, her parents (who are evangelical Christians) had been giving celebrity interviews to the press. Claiming that the pop music star’s impending divorce was the best thing that has ever happened to their Christian ministry, they have been talking to the paps, getting paid for tabloid stories (allegedly), and their personal website has been getting huge traffic. What the parents of the singer have done with their new-found star power ever since has been nothing less than shameless.

They went on a Jew-bashing crusade, railing against the upper class and Hollywood’s most rich and famous. Like actor Mel Gibson, who essentially ended his career with his crude anti-Semitic remarks back when he was arrested for DUI, Katy’s father really put his foot — and subsequently his daughter’s career — right in a big pile of criticism.

Fortunately, even newscasters and journalists have hearts. Calling Katy Perry blameless for her [idiot] parents remarks or opinions, CNN reported what is at least some progress in the celebrity scandal today. They write:

Katy Perry’s father, Pastor Keith Hudson, has apologized after being criticized by two prominent Jewish groups for giving a sermon that included anti-Semitic remarks.

The evangelical preacher drew ire from the Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on Monday because of remarks he made about Jews during a recent speaking engagement at the Church on the Rise in Westlake, Ohio.

“You know how to make the Jew jealous? Have some money, honey,” Hudson allegedly said. “You go to L.A. and they own all the Rolex and diamond places. Walk down a part of L.A. where we live and it is so rich it smells. You ever smell rich? They are all Jews, hallelujah! Amen.”

See why she is embarrassed?

Obviously, Hollywood culture does not embrace antisemitism in any way and we don’t think Katy Perry agrees with him, either. No wonder the celebrity wanted to escape into a fantasy land where she had enough money of her own to not look back and to get away.

The rumor mills reports that Katy Perry and Russell Brand broke up over religious differences and that Katy made Russell file for the divorce so she could protect her image with her religious family sparked the interest. Her father telling the tabloids that he used to use LSD and was a child of the 60s — as if to say it is okay that Brand is some sort of hippie-dippie addict heathen — made their website a viral hit.

The People’s Choice Awards would have been the star celeb’s first major public appearance since Russell Brand filed for divorce. Katy may still be feeling the sting from the announcement.

While the People’s Choice Awards will be held January 11, 2012, and broadcast on CBS, Katy Perry is still scheduled for two shows in Indonesia for January 19 and January 22. Perhaps the star celeb is expecting the rumor mill crowds to descend on her at the People’s Choice Awards regarding her famous actor husband (ex) Russell Brand or to question her about the celebrity scandal involving her parents. We can totally understand why she would want to skip it. After all, there will be far fewer paparazzi photogs and screaming tabloid gossip reporters hunting her down and cornering her on the red carpet in Indonesia.

But not all is gloom in Katy’s life, Us Weekly reports:

On Saturday, Perry spoke out for the first time since splitting from her hubby of 14 months. “I am so grateful for the love and support from people around the world,” she tweeted. “You guys have made my heart happy again.”

If the green celebrity rocker needs to take some down time, she deserves it. We’d like to see her appear and accept some well-deserved awards, but we can let the lady rest. She had wanted to start a humanitarian charity with Brand, so maybe the down time will give her leeway to think about what kinds of work above and beyond fighting cancer, supporting Habitat for Humanity, and donating to Project Clean Water.

All the best to you, Katy, from GCN. We are still fans even if you are not ready to make that long, lonely walk down the red carpet without Russell Brand — and we certainly can’t fault you in any way for the bad news reports stemming from the mouths of your “good Christian” parents.
