“American Idol” judge Steven Tyler has always lived life in the fast lane, but now he can outperform everyone else who likes to cruise there too. The front man for the rock band Aerosmith made automotive history on May 31st, 2012 when major media outlet CBS covered the exotic car story about the singer buying the fastest car in the world.
Dropping a cool $1.1 million dollars on a sports car is not something anyone might be willing to do, but Tyler had some mighty big shoes to fill as a celebrity judge on the reality television competition. Former Idol judge turned “X Factor” competitor Simon Cowell is a car collector and racing enthusiast. He drives a Bugatti (or a Ferrari… and sometimes a Rolls Royce, depending on what he’s doing).
Could it be that Steven Tyler simply spent all that money on his exotic car so he could boast that ratings were high and his automobile was faster than Cowell’s? It’s a likely story because it needs to be clarified that the car he purchased could technically help him show off his prowess or let loose his road rage.
The cool car Steven Tyler purchased is world’s fastest street-legal car — the Hennessey Venom GT Spyder. That means if the two men get the cars on the same continent that there very well may be a highly illegal street race take place someday.
Having seen Cowell drive on the track, he will be hard to beat because of his superior technical driving skills. It is hard to imagine that Tyler (who regularly had a hard time keeping his hands and elbows from falling off the judges table awkwardly when he talked) would be able to out steer the X Factor creator even if he did use some of his fancy rock star footwork to control the pedals in the race, but hey…
He bought a wicked cool exotic car and for dropping that kind of cash simply to out-flash his mouthy rival he deserves to have car guys and car girls credit today. MSN further revealed, “The Spyder is incredibly rare, with only five such vehicles built for the 2013 model year, and it boasts more than 1,200 horsepower, making it go from 0 to 200 mph in 15.9 seconds.”
If you are worried the car is not eco-friendly, you should be. It’s not a green car in any way. But, on a plus note, the cool thing about exotic cars is they are produced in limited numbers. As collectors items destined for museums someday, most responsible drivers only drive them two thousand miles or less annually. With a car like the Hennessey Venom GT Spyder, it is so rare it may only see five hundred or so road miles total in its heyday. To that end, let’s hope if the rocker and the producer ever do road rally race, that a winner is determined quickly before either of the famous men’s cars accumulate too many miles to justify on any given day.
Who do you think would win a street race if they were both driving equally competitive cars — Steven Tyler from “American Idol” or Simon Cowell from “X Factor”? Let other readers know your thoughts in the comments section below.
