Hollywood culture can be confusing. One day you are the talk of the town for being the most fashionable woman on the red carpet, the next day your name is in all the tabloids thanks to a celebrity scandal related to your hairstyle. So what is really going on with actress Cate Blanchett? The highly acclaimed movie star is rumored to be planning to shave her head for her role in an upcoming Woody Allen film at his request. New rumor mill reports swirled June 5th, 2012 indicating not only is she willing to shear off her pale blond locks, she’ll be happy to do so.
As a result of her willingness to essentially go bald, “Blanchett has been cast in Woody Allen’s next movie project which he will shoot in San Francisco and his native New York…” says the Herald Sun (an Australian newspaper). The cast includes Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Sally Hawkins, Peter Sarsgaard and comedian Andrew Dice Clay.”
Following the trend in Hollywood set by other beautiful stars like Sigourney Weaver (for an “Aliens” sequel), Demi Moore (for “G.I. Jane”), and Natalie Portman (for “V is for Vendetta), Blanchett might make super short hair more fashionable. [Think Emma Watson from "Harry Potter" post filming.] But whether or not she’ll be going shiny bald like actress Cynthia Nixon agreed to do for a role on Broadway where she plays a cancer patient has not been revealed.
But shaving her head for the new Woody Allen movie is not the only thing on this red-hot green celebrity actress’ agenda. She also plans to help the Sydney Theater Company pay to retrofit their arts building with solar panels. Not stopping there with her eco-friendly charity work, she’s helping them pay to install rainwater collection systems so the facility will be more eco-friendly.
Blanchett’s never been one to follow the trend in fashion or lifestyle. In those regards, she’s been more of a trendsetter. Her Sydney, Australia home is fully powered by solar energy, and the actress donates regularly to the Forest Guardians project – a non-profit organization that helps to preserve and protect wilderness. Since she claims she dreads exercise and prefers to participate in outdoor activities with her family instead, making sure the native wildlife and habitats indigenous to her region of Australia are kept flourishing has been a cause for her that is grand.
Will she be using the money she earns from the Woody Allen film to help fund charity projects? undoubtedly. But exactly how much money she has been offered to shave her head for the role in the new movie has not been disclosed yet.
