Lost city of Atlantis destroyed by Earthquake Tsunami similar to the one that hit Japan?
[Mar. 12]
It’s been a decade now since Michael J. Fox, who is struggling with Parkinson’s, starred as the voice of Milo Thatch in the animated film Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001), but not hearing the word Atlantis in the press as often has not dampened the spirits of those who search for it. Now, a team of scientists and geologists believe they may have discovered the fabled lost city of Atlantis … in Spain of all places. A U.S. lead archaeology research team believes they may have found the fabled Atlantis, a place that the Ancient philosophers and historians had mentioned as real but having been destroyed, in the mud flats of southern Spain. The exciting contemporary living history news comes as a timely announcement. Why? Because scientists believe it was washed away by a giant tsunami, one very similar to the earthquake tsunami experienced this week by the island nation of Japan.
From Reuters:
Debate about whether Atlantis truly existed has lasted for thousands of years. Plato’s “dialogues” from around 360 B.C. are the only known historical sources of infromation about the iconic city. Plato said the island he called Atlantis “in a single day and night… disappeared into the depths of the sea.”
Whether the real Atlantis has been discovered or not, the find is a fascinating discovery in the wake of the tsunami that recently hit Japan, killing at least 900 people. An earthquake measured at 8.9 on the Richter Scale triggered the tsunami.
A tsunami is caused by disruptions in the earth beneath a large body of water. Tsunamis generally occur at ocean sites, and Japan is a prime target. The word “tsunami” comes from the Japanese words “harbor” and “wave”. Tsunamis are enormous waves, many stories tall in some cases, that surge ashore as a result of underwater disruptions. Tsunamis are a threat to the California coast in the U.S. as well.
It is possible then that the fabled city of Atlantis was consumed by a tsunami. Citizens of Atlantis would not have had the technology that Japan has today to lessen the impact of tsunamis, and Atlantis probably had never seen a tsunami before the one that struck it, unlike Japan.
Adding to the evidence is the fact that there exist a number of so-called cities about 150 miles inland in Spain, where survivors from Atlantis may have retreated after a giant tsunami destroyed the original Atlantis.
“The team of archeologists and geologists in 2009 and 2010 used a combination of deep-ground radar, digital mapping, and underwater technology to survey the site,” reports Reuters.
While it is hard to know with certainty that the site in Spain in Atlantis, [head researcher Richard Freund] said the “twist” of finding the memorial cities makes him confident Atlantis was buried in the mud flats on Spain’s southern coast.
It’s been a decade now since Michael J. Fox, who is struggling with Parkinson’s, starred as the voice of Milo Thatch in the animated film Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001). Michael J. Fox is a green celebrity who has funded the Michael J. Fox Foundation, dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson’s.
Famed boxer Muhammed Ali called Fox:
“For some reason, I returned his call from the phone in my bathroom. In the mirror I could see my eyes welling up as he said, in his eloquent whisper, ’I’m sorry you have this, but with both of us in this fight, we’re going to win now.’”
But, please, whether Atlantis has been discovered or not, do what you can to help Japan. Everyone wants to see this #Winning, even Charlie Sheen. Tsunamis are serious business. Lady GaGa designed a charity bracelet to help with relief efforts in Japan. Other celebrities are answering the call as well.
