Who is Dionne Warwick and why is she famous?

Known as the celebrity spokeswoman for the Psychic Friends network, Dionne Warwick is a major music celebrity. She’s earned five Grammy awards for her music, and most recently was in London for the Hunger Project, which is her chosen charity for this season of Celebrity Apprentice. Then again, she’s always been a green celebrity. She earned some notoriety in 2002 when she was caught and arrested for carrying joints in Miami International Airport.

Recently among a host of green celebrities at the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards, green celebrity Dionne Warwick received the Pioneer Arts & Activism Award after entering to the music of “That’s What Friends Are For,” the song she recorded 25 years ago with green celebrities Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Gladys Knight to raise money for AIDS research. Back in January, Dionne Warwick perfromed at the Van Wezel Perfroming Arts Hall in Sarasota for its 10th anniversary.
She was lauded by Stayin’ Alive (1983) costume designer Bob Mackie for starting the Dionne Warwick Foundation to provide educational funds for the black community, which he noted is “keenly affected by the virus.”
As much as the green celebrity has done to bring awareness to AIDS, one would think the misdemeanor in Miami could have been glossed over. Dionne Warwick says she uses marijuana to treat glaucoma, and many doctors attest to its effectiveness. Besides, if Charlie Sheen can snort cocaine and drink like a fish, why should a lovely green celebrity like Dionne Warwick not be able to smoke a little pot if it keeps her going strong?
