Japanese Tsunami Dog Rescue!

Family pet found alive after floating on debris alone for three weeks while lost at sea?

[Apr. 2]

When you think about charity after a natural disaster, typically the first thought that comes to mind is humanitarian aid. Among the hoards of green celebrities also assisting with tsunami and earthquake relief in Japan — rocker Katy Perry has donated proceeds from glowsticks she is selling on her current tour, Gwen Stefani and pet friendly Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock each have donated $1 million to the relief efforts in Japan. Hollywood stars who are able to donate large sums of money whenever a disaster strikes are heroes in their own right, but there are other types of hero figures the work can and should admire as well. For instance, the members of the Coast Guard and Red Cross rescuers have become green celebrities in their own rights, working tirelessly to find any survivors even though Japan has already survived the difficult three weeks since the devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami struck the island nation in March of 2011. And there are others — like the family pets who have been able to endure harsh conditions and to survive despite the loss of human companionship, care, or supervision. Like the Tsunami dog who was just rescued off the coast of Japan, where it has been floating alone on debris while trying to keep itself alive the past three weeks.

TSUNAMI DOG RESCUE IN JAPAN

At least one dog has a new lease on life following the 9.0 earthquake in Japan and the devastating tsunami it caused, and now he is a canine hero who is making both headline and entertainment news worldwide with his remarkable story. A Coast Guard helicopter crew spotted a dog living atop a roof floating in the sea off the coast of Japan. The rescuers noticed the dog as it searched debris washed out to sea by the tsunami three weeks ago. Amazingly the dog survived the earthquake, the tsunami, and three weeks at sea sailing on a roof.

The Coast Guard helicopter crew attempted a rescue, but the helicopter frightened the dog, who continued to hide under the roof where it had been living for three weeks following the tsunami. The helicopter rescue crew ran out of fuel and a Coast Guard boat crew took over the effort and was able to rescue the dog after several hours of coaxing. Coast Guard teams are hoping the dog can lead rescuers to its owner.

GREEN CELEBRITIES ASSIST JAPAN WITH RESCUE EFFORTS

Without the donated funds from millions of people worldwide and larger charitable donations made by green celebrities, the extensive rescue operations underway in Japan that continue to this day might not have been possible.

Fox News reports:

“The American Red Cross is extremely grateful for this generous support from Sandra Bullock and her family,” the organization said in a statement. “This contribution is vitally important as the Red Cross works to provide critical assistance and essential relief items in this time of urgent need for so many people in Japan.”

The site also notes:

On Friday, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyonce, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and more than thirty other stars joined together to release “Songs for Japan” on iTunes for $9.99. Proceeds from the album’s sale will benefit the disaster relief efforts of the Japanese Red Cross Society.

Other celebrities have stepped up to the plate as well. Recently ousted actor Charlie Sheen is donating $1 from every ticket sold on his “My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not an Option” show to the Japanese Earthquake Relief Fund. And green celebrity rocker Lady Gaga, in addition to “Songs for Japan”, designed a bracelet, the proceeds of which are being donated to the tsunami relief effort in Japan. After just two days of sales, she tweeted: “Monsters: in just 48 hrs you’ve raised a quarter of a million dollars for Japan Relief.”

HUMANS AND ANIMALS BENEFIT FROM PET FRIENDLY RESCUE EFFORTS

It’s a green celebrity miracle made possible by green celebrities from all walks of the arts, including design, music, television, and film. Hollywood has come together to assist with a tsunami relief effort that will cost into the billions. Each little bit of green celebrity charity helps. And your charity, independently or on the behalf of a green celebrity, helps as well.

And at least one little pup owes his life to it.

Now, with a global prayer, the Tsunami dog will be able to find its former owners alive and well or to be taken in by new family who will give the pet a wonderful new family home.
