Celebrity politics! It’s kind of funny but Hollywood actor Danny DeVito is on the list of big name celebs that the NRA considers hostile. According to various news sources like the Bangor Daily News, the actor’s anti-gun stance has gotten him pegged as armed with something far more dangerous than bullets — political clout. So, while the gun control debates rage on among Washingtonian elites, the National Rifle Association has been busy setting their sites on taking down dangerous opponents like the Limoncello-loving thespian. To them, he’s even scarier than his buddy Arnold Schwarzenegger (the ex-Governator who was spotted out having lunch with his son in Beverly Hills on Feb. 12).
Danny DeVito is the son of Julia and Daniel DeVito, who owned several small businesses. He was born on November 17, 1944 in Neptune, New Jersey. He was married to actress Rhea Perlman from 1982 to 2012, when they surprised everyone by splitting up. They have three children. According to Radar Online, DeVito showered his ex last December with luxurious goodies and a week at a luxurious spa.
He graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1966 and spent the late 1960s writing, directing and producing. He made short films and performed in many stage productions until he landed the role of Martini in the film “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”.
DeVito went on to win a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his role in the hit TV show “Taxi” and was on his way. He starred in blockbuster films like “Ruthless People”, “Batman Returns” and “Romancing the Stone”. His latest work includes “The Lorax” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”.
As a director, DeVito brought “Throw Momma From the Train”, “War of the Roses”, and “Hoffa”. He went on to earn his producer’s credits with his own production company, Jersey Films, which was responsible for over 20 films, including “Pulp Fiction” and “Erin Brockovich”.
De Vito supports eco friendly and humanitarian non-profit organization like Solar Neighbors, a charity that provides access to solar power to low-income residents in South Central Los Angeles. When an invited celebrity buys a BP solar system for their home, BP donates a similar system.
He is active with Operation USA, an organization that reaches out to vulnerable populations who tend to be ignored by governments and larger aid organizations. These populations often need the most help and include Hurricane Sandy, Haitian earthquake and Japan Tsunami victims.
He is also an active campaigner for such enterprises as the Clinton Foundation, Greenpeace and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
And it may be those very real political connections with folks like Bill Clinton, his wife Hillary, and extreme left-wing groups like Greenpeace that scare the NRA advocates the most.
While you do not have to be a Republican (or even a wayward Democrat) to support 2nd amendment rights to bear arms, if you know people in Hollywood social circles who are able to stride into Washington, DC and co-mingle professionally with comfort you have the potential to become a fearsome foe. There, a big mouth outdoes big guns… even those the size of the arms on Schwarzenegger.
