There is a new display of music artifacts going on display at Graceland, the former celebrity home of rock and roll icon Elvis Presley. Items on display for the ICON theme exhibit include Bono’s “MacPhisto” suit from U2’s Zooropa performances, Bob Dylan’s leather jacket that appears on the album cover “Real Live,” along with artifacts from pop music singer Elton John, country singer Trisha Yearwood, American Idol contestants Scotty McCreery, James Durbin, and Carrie Underwood, Dave Matthews, Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Joan Jett, Wanda Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, The Beatles, Katy Perry and many others. At least one couple knows how to ring in the new year. Former American Idol contestant James Durbin married his longtime love Heidi Lowe on New Year’s Eve 2011. Invited to the wedding in Santa Cruz, CA, were three other hopefuls from season 10 of the show: Haley Reinhart, Stefano Langone, and Casey Abrams. “We are so in love and happy that we got to share our special day with our closest family and friends,” the couple told People. Durbin, who helped raise $2,700 for the Tourette Syndrome Association through the sale of a limited design earring from Pennyroyal Studio, stuck with a green celebrity theme for a wedding. American Idol, the television series, has a massive following in the United States and viewers are from a broad range demographic. James Durbin is teaching everyone Heavy Metal Concert 101 and rock music fan or not, it sure is hard not to like him. While only a small number of people watching the show have probably every been to a real heavy metal rock concert, as former Gen X headbanger whose life partner is a Baby Boomer who has seen nearly every hit band and major rock star of note since the 1960s one thing was clear from our view-point. Durbin rocks the house not because of his raw talent but because he has studied his rock music history. That’s our theory — the kid with the faux hawk is actually *gasp* an ACADEMIC.
