Martin Sheen shocking confessions about Charlie Sheen —
[Feb. 24]
Actor Martin Sheen, of Apocalypse Now and West Wing fame, is speaking out for the first time about the drug and alcohol addictions of his son Charlie Sheen, the world’s highest paid television actor at the present time and star of Two and a Half Men. Hollywood legend Martin Sheen likens actor Charlie Sheen’s Hollywood inspired addictions to drugs and alcohol to something like cancer, according to celebrity gossip website Radar Online.
Saying in an interview with Sky News, “You know, if he had cancer, how would we treat him? The disease of addiction is a from of cancer and you have to have an equal measure of concern and love and lift them up and so that’s what we do for him.”
Hollywood bad boy Charlie Sheen has struggled in Tinseltown with drug and alcohol addiction since he was a child star with a famous celebrity dad whose star was still on the rise in the Hollywood movie industry.
He most recently was admitted to the hospital at the end of January 2011 with “severe abdominal pains,” according to Fox News. The pains were related to a hiatal hernia, a medical condition where the top of the stomach protrudes up into the esophagus, creating the likely symptoms of pain very similar to an ulcer.
Reportedly, neighbors heard what sounded like a large party the night before at Sheen’s home. CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler said that there was concern over Charlie Sheen’s behavior but the network could do little because Sheen showed up on time and fulfilled his contracted.
According to Fox News, Tassler added:
“This man is a father. He’s got children. He has a family. So obviously there is concern on a personal level. But you can’t look at it simplistically,” Tassler said. “Right now the show continues to be a hit. Everyone is doing their job and things are continuing as planned.”
Apparently the television network cares little as long as Sheen fulfills his contractual obligations. Charlie Sheen reportedly earns in excess of $2 million per episode of Two and a Half Men. So it looks like the network is happy as long as Charlie Sheen is happy, and Charlie Sheen is happy as long as he gets to keep partying with drugs and alcohol.
But Martin Sheen and his other famous Hollywood actor son Emilio Estevez (who chose to keep the family’s ethnic name rather than take the stage name Sheen) are both genuinely concerned about Charlie Sheen’s health and fitness, wondering how much longer his agin body can take the alcohol and drug abuse before it shuts down or he overdoses.
Asked how they cope with Charlie Sheen’s behavior and drug and alcohol addiction, Emilio Estevez said, “You get used to it though. After 30 years, me, 40 some years, you build up an immunity I guess.”
According to MSNBC, Martin Sheen said, “You realize we’re not all on the same journey all the time. We have to love that much more, we have to be that much more present.” Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez also are working on a memoir called Along the Way, named after their latest film project filmed in Spain, The Way. The memoir aims to describe the journey they have taken with Charlie Sheen and his constant need for celebrity rehab.
