Happy New Years! Looking for a big list of star celebs who did good deeds in 2011? The website DoSomething.org shared the low down on the top green celebrities and famous humanitarians who did something for the world. By using their star power wisely, they were able to do good deeds for charity, to help save the planet, and (most of all) made the lives of people in need better thanks to their help, celebrity endorsements, and generous donations.

Who is George ClooneyJust in time for Happy New Years tweets and Hollywood gossip recap article circulation, the teen-centered volunteer organization DoSomething.org has identified the most charitable celebrities in 2011. Earning spots in the Top 20 Celebs Gone Good, these famous humanitarians and green celebrities all have spent the past year using their star power wisely. NY Daily News also shared the list of the top three star celebs who did good deeds. Coming out on top, perhaps unsurprisingly noted the Hollywood Reporter, were Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, and George Clooney. It’s pretty easy to claim an affiliation with a charitable organization, and some celebrities do just that, but these green celebrity stars are true to their word, often putting in as much work as they do dollars to make real their charity goals.

Lady Gaga earned first place, for the second year in a row, for her work to support anti-bullying charity. She has started the Born This Way Foundation, to be launched in 2012, following the suicide of a young man who was bullied as a result of his sexuality. She also made plans to visit with President Barack Obama to specifically address the issue of bullying. Lady Gaga herself has expressed an uncertain sexual identity, with interests in both men and women.

Justin Bieber landed in second place, jumping eight places from 10th place last year (maybe only because of his relatively new fame), for charities he helped found and support. The teen heart-throb has shown regular support for Pencils of Promise, which has helped build countless numbers of schools in developing nations. And the green celebrity demonstrated a more personal drive to give to charity when he decided, for his 17th birthday, to solicit donations for a charity organization he helped start. My Charity: Water aimed to earn $17 from each true fan (a dollar per year he’d been alive, for his birthday), toward an ultimate goal of $17,000 to help provide clean water for developing nations. He topped out at over $47,000, a truly amazing contribution from such a young star.

Coming in at number three on the list is George Clooney, ever the ladies’ dream man even at age 50. George Clooney was recognized for his longstanding vigilance in opposing the violence in the Darfur region of Sudan. He has visited the region personally, and he founded Not on Our Watch with co-stars from Ocean’s 11 to keep an eye on violence in Darfur. But the star celeb shows his green in many other ways. He’s on the United Way Board of Trustees, and he supports the star celeb rocker Bono‘s ONE Campaign, which fights poverty.

It’s a list of truly admirable people, teens among them, who green teens can feel proud to emulate. We wish them all continued success throughout the new year and the years to follow.
