The Oscars 2012 have come and gone, but not without a bit of love and fanfare for famous couples in Hollywood. So, what were the biggest award show scandals this year? Rumor mills felt the need to focus more on who was seen with whom. Which A-list stars, Academy Award Winners and Oscar Nominees got the most free press for acting silly, creating a scandal, being lovey-dovey on the red carpet, and who made headline news because of a celebrity OOPS moment despite being named on the best dressed list? Here’s the inside scoop about all of it…
Celebrity couples got plenty of free press on Oscars night 2012. Oddly enough, no one was talking about couples who were married or dating — instead the Oscars gossip was all about the Academy Awards presenters (with a few asides about Ryan Seacrest‘s mishap with actor Sacha Baron Cohen who ruined his tux in a disrespectful gag at the expense of our foreign relations with North Korea so he could promote his upcoming film The Dictator while cruising with his glamazons on the red carpet).
[As TMZ said, “Sacha Baron Cohen took shameless promotion to a whole other level on the red carpet of the Oscars…”. If you are reading this article, please promise not to see it?]
Reports about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (who really are a couple), Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow (who play romantic interests in Iron Man), the ladies from the movie Bridesmaids, Emma Stone and Ben Stiller (whose only connection seems to be they are both funny people), George Clooney and Stacy Keibler (looking bored with each other but not unhappy), Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz promoting a “behind the scenes” story, and a wardrobe malfunction of less than epic proportion for one of the ladies while she walked the red carpet seemed to be the dominant celebrity couples gossip themes.
Pop Sugar reports, “Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr. took the stage to hilariously present best documentary. Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz were another memorable duo, and they even incorporated a bit of choreography. The ladies of Bridesmaids reconvened as well to present a trio of awards, with Maya Rudolph and Kristin Wiig doing a silly, sort-of-sexual bit about the pros and cons of “short” films.”
Other stars who teamed up to present included Emma Stone and Ben Stiller (who did a very cute schtick where she pretended to be the elated newcomer to his straight man) and Tina Fey — who hit the jackpot when she got paired up with one of the sexiest men alive — presenting with Bradley Cooper).
Off stage the celebrity couples who seemed to get the most air play seemed to be Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The Hollywood power couple were seated on the front row in the aisle (seats that are really great and offer a wonderful view). Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis paired up in white tuxedos and banged big brass symbols together in front of Brangelina, cracking the sweet lovebird stars up.
Aside from Brad and Angie, George Clooney and new professional wrestler girlfriend Stacey Keibler looked relaxed and comfortable on the other end of the front row, but one has to wonder whether or not the Oscar planners actually should have thought it out more, as Clooney sitting next to Brad Pitt with the ladies on their outside would make for better pictures. However, there are rumors that Angelina Jolie hates Stacey Keibler, so perhaps event planners know more about the stars preferences than the paparazzi. To that end, the celebrity couples did not sit with one another at ANY of the awards shows this season.
But the dynamic duos that are being talked about the most are actually sets of celebrity boobs. Jennifer Lopez, the actress and singer who is a judge on American Idol and mother of twins by Latin singer (and estranged husband Marc Anthony), had a wardrobe malfunction. We’re not sure who will be more embarrassed, her or Idol host Ryan Seacrest — as he got punked and his tuxedo was wrecked but she had a celebrity OOPS moment that people can’t stop talking about.
And Oprah Winfrey… holy vavoom, Batman! She and her “girls” bobbled out across the stage to make a special guest appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel show after the Academy Awards. She’s gained back some wait, but lucky for her, it seems to have all gone to her chest. Her incredibly flattering gown set the new standard for what an Oscar Nominee or Academy Award Winner should look like in a dress. Plus, the skits she filmed about Oprah repossessing the gifts she’s given out to her past talk show studio audiences and hosting a “Book Club Fight Club” were nothing short of humbly brilliant.
Oprah won an honorary Oscar for her humanitarian work. She joked with Jimmy Kimmel (who she was flirting with pretty openly on his show and before the awards show on Twitter) that when you do lots of good things, people just give you awards.
Her special guest appearance on late night TV was reasonable hilarious… will her next stop on her OWN network promotion spree be to host Saturday Night Live? Hopefully. If she hosts, one can only hope there would be more awards in her future for being really funny.
