Celebrity look alikes funny T-Mobile dance video goes viral hours before the Royal Wedding and keeps going strong all week long —
[May 3]
Count on YouTube to make history funny. Jill and Kevin’s Wedding Entrance Dance video, a YouTube classic that went viral back in 2009, has had over 64 million hits in recent time. Why? Because the funny video inspired cellular phone carrier T-Mobile to make their own ROYAL WEDDING ENTRANCE DANCE VIDEO PARODY as an advertising gimmick, and of course it too has gone viral.
The Royal Wedding Entrance Dance viral video has skyrocketed in popularity since it was introduced last week. Overnight, just hours before the royal wedding, the viral video leaped up 25 percent in viewership from four million hits to five million hits. You can see the video here.
Why was the short movie such a success?
Thanks to great casting of celebrity look alikes that make you take a second glance to figure out if the YouTube video of the Royal Wedding Dance video features any real or truly famous star celebs.
T-Mobile went as far as hiring stunt doubles and lookalikes for Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, Queen Elizabeth II, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and others, all dancing into what we presume is supposed to be Westminster Abbey (CNN says it’s St. Bartholomew the Great Church in London, where Four Weddings and a Funeral was filmed in 1994) with the Archbishop of Dance presiding to the tune of House of Love by boy band East 17.
CNN reports:
Charles and Camilla do the bump, a moderately amused-looking Queen Elizabeth claps conservatively and Prince Harry looks amped up, grooving with a gaggle of bridesmaids before his big brother and bride-to-be appear.
The San Francisco Chronicle wonders if the royal wedding viral video will beat out the viral video by Rebecca Black singing Friday.
USA Today adds, “We sure underestimated the hilarity of a fist-pumping Prince William wannabe!”
T-Mobile certainly has capitalized on the star celebs celebrity gossip hype surrounding the royal wedding, and that’s hard to do with a viral video followup. As cutting edge marketers competing with the big boys like Verizon and AT&T, underdog company T-Mobile said the idea behind the viral video copycat is part congratulation to Prince William and Kate Middleton and part capture of the mood of the nation and the world in celebrating the royal wedding.
As the viral video closes, T-Mobile brands it “One’s Life is for Sharing,” which does capture the mood of those following the wedding and the attitude the Prince William and Kate Middleton have espoused by asking that all well-wishers wanting to send gifts consider donating to charity instead. It’s kind of hard to knock that sort of goodwill down.
