Why did Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver marriage split?

Arnold Schwarzenegger, bodybuilder, star celeb actor famous for Terminator, and former Republican governor of California, has split with his wife of 25 years, Maria Shriver. The two green celebrities — who first met at a charity benefit — released a statement together Monday, May 9, 2011, to address questions raised by the Los Angeles Times. The celebrity couple has been living apart for several weeks now, and Maria Shriver (a Kennedy family member and former news anchor) is in the process of moving out and planning the next stage of her life.
So why did Arnold and Maria split?
It’s possible the couple has been on a rocky road since the recall of former California Governor Gray Davis, when news of Arnold Schwarzenegger and his history of groping women on the sets of his movies was broken. In spite of the charges, the first lady of CA Maria Shriver stood by her husband and reminded everyone that it took great courage for Schwarzenegger to publicly admit that he’d been a bit rowdy in his movie heydays. There are also rampant rumors the Terminator may have been carrying on affairs with women closest to him in everyday life and social circles.
The couple has not said exactly why they have split, but they did say in the statement:
“This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us,” the statement read. “After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer, we came to this decision together. At this time, we are living apart while we work on the future of our relationship.
“We are continuing to parent our four children together. They are the light and the center of both of our lives. We consider this a private matter and neither we nor any of our friends or family will have further comment. We ask for compassion and respect from the media and the public.”
The couple, who long has been known for their opposing political views (Maria Shriver is the daughter of the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver) are having to explore their new single lives. Arnold Schwarzenegger reportedly has been offered three movie roles, including another Terminator role. Maria Shriver has mentioned an East College tour and is continuing to work on her pet projects, including work with Alzheimer’s awareness, women’s empowerment, and publishing.
UPDATE: Arnold and Maria split when Maria Shriver learned the news he had fathered a child with their housekeeper of 20 years and had been keeping the now 13 year old boy a secret. The woman’s name is Mildred Baena. There is no indication Arnold and Maria will be getting back together from the sounds of it in rumor mills press and celebrity gossip internet rumor reports. Maria Shriver is devastated.
