Dancing With The Stars 2012 contestant Maria Menounos was the first celebrity to dance on the show and she is also the first one to get hurt. The gorgeous host from Extra TV got positive scores for her first dance routine with professional dance partner Derek Hough on the show premiere but broke two ribs while training for the second show. Will she be able to compete on par with the other celebrities for the rest of the season? Here’s the latest news about her attitude and how she’s holding up.
Maria Menounos and Derek Hough started of the 2012 season of Dancing With The Stars with a kick. The co-host of EXTRA entertainment news was really nervous but had heard such positive things about the reality show dancer cast from her co-star and former dance competitor Mario Lopez that she manned up and agreed to be on the program.
Wearing a sassy little royal blue outfit, Len told her she could use a little more hip action but said that she coped very well.
Bruno said her timing was good and free hand placement was very good. He told her to open up her sex pot — and a laughing Derek (who steered her through the Cha Cha) said he would be happy to guide her through it.
Almost all the Twitter reactions to their dance on the night the first show aired were overwhelmingly positive.
She seemed a bit stressed to be the first person to dance but the 7 – 7 – 7 score from celebrity judges Carrie Ann, Len, and Bruno certainly seemed to put her at ease a bit.
But training for week two with Derek, she actually broke two ribs! Extra TV confirmed the injury and noted the entertainment news show host is still planning to compete and is in good spirits despite the injury.
Their website shared, “Page Six reported the “Dancing with the Stars” contestant broke two ribs while rehearsing with partner Derek Hough, but Menounos [told] “Extra’s” Renee Bargh in her first interview [after] the injury that she is not letting it get her down.”
Fox News reports, “Word on the show is Menounos broke a rib during a hardcore rehearsal with Hough, who was teaching her the Cha-cha-cha.”
The major media site claimed a source close to the “Extra” host had nothing but flattering things to say about her commitment to remaining a competitor on DWTS 2012, “She has been in excruciating pain for the past few weeks during rehearsals, but she is staying strong and working through it. She refuses to give up.”
The charitable celeb is one of our office favorites to win because she regularly volunteers for organizations like Clothes Off Our Back, The Humane Society, and Save The Music Foundation.
For these reason — because she is such a lovely humanitarian and always strives to keep a positive attitude– we’re giving her a GOOD SPORTS nod from Green Celebrity Network for being such a good sport and not wanting to give up on DWTS 2012.
