Look out, Jennifer Aniston! The little girl from the Harry Potter movie series is all grown up and setting the latest trends in cute girl haircuts and celebrity hairstyles fashion. While Justin Bieber’s new haircut might have gotten tons of internet hits as Belieber fans scoured the web in 2011 for the latest pics of the Biebs with his long bangs clipped, it was actually Emma Watson and her pixie cut hairstyle that was the biggest women’s hairstyle hit.
Perhaps one of the most popular hairstyles of all time — The Rachel, popularized by Friends actress Jennifer Aniston — has been officially displaced off the official top trendy haircut list. The victor? Surprisingly, the pixie cut on star celeb Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame beat any one of Jennifer Aniston’s haircuts from this or any other year reports Us Weekly.
According to a new fashion and lifestyle report by the Wall Street Journal that ranked star celeb haircuts in terms of their rising popularity. Their evidence? The number of people searching for celebrity hairstyle key terms on Google — and the search engine reports searches for Emma Watson’s haircut and the updated do of pop rocker Justin Bieber took the top spots in 2011 in searches for celebrity hairstyles.
The journal reported the news as being a significant deviation in pop culture. They claimed, “The popularity of the pixie cut is more of a change for women—for whom short hair hasn’t been trendy since the ’90s—than for men, who may justifiably feel sheepish about asking for the [trendy teen haircut].”
Emma Watson, a green celebrity who works to help end poverty and address disaster relief across the world through charity programs like Millennium Promise Alliance and ShelterBox, chopped off her hair last year, shortly after wrapping up filming on the Harry Potter series. She called the haircut, “the most liberating thing ever,” says the Washington Post. Though the paper tried to say Emma Watson’s pixie cut is on its way “out” this year — mainly because no one wants to be the one website that gives bad press to America’s girl net door looking sweetheart, Jennifer Aniston — not many people who have seen and like the hairstyle believe them.
[Yeah, right… on the outs. Men and women who love short hair, a natural beauty look, no Botox or plastic surgery, and a girl with a bit more acting talent and personality are basically are ignoring them, saying whatever.]
Is Hollywood icon Jennifer Aniston, now well into her 40s, jealous that a younger and arguably prettier twenty something star celebrity is getting more hits on the internet than her for famous pics of her celebrity hairstyles? Probably not, if fans can take the famous celebrity at her own word. Early last year in January, when asked about the haircut seen ’round the world, she called it “the ugliest haircut I’ve ever seen,” says iVillage. Ouch.
Indeed, the “Rachel” became one of the most popular haircuts of all time, says Brad Masterson, spokesman for the Professional Beauty Association, which represents hair salons. It’s not surprising then, that some women who got the cut may now feel a bit crestfallen. “Most women wouldn’t find it flattering” that Aniston is dissing her iconic style, Masterson says, and may stop looking to her as a continued source of style inspiration.
No worries, though. Both star celeb actresses are content with leaving their old locks behind and celebrating their new ‘dos, and if that’s not the right attitude with which to go into the New Year, we don’t know what is.
After all, both these women look stunning no matter how they choose to wear their hair — and neither is wrestling with the bad haircut decision that Kim Kardashian is… Kim K cut trendy new bangs in her hair for New Years.
