Khloe Kardashian is making a public pledge to be more catty than she already is in the new year. The reality television star from the hit show Keeping Up With The Kardashians has decided one of her New Year’s Resolutions for 2012 is to help save tigers. Joining the ranks of WWF celebrity spokesperson Leonardo Di Caprio in speaking out about the dwindling wild tiger population, the PETA model is planning to do more this year than she has ever done in the past for animal welfare.
If you haven’t been Keeping Up with the Kardashians lately because you were aggravated about the Kim Kardashian – Kris Humphries divorce, you might want to start. In spite of PETA’s slam against Kim Kardashian for wearing real fur instead of going with something artificial and pet friendly, her little sister Khloe Kardashian is making 2012 headlines in the world of green news and environmentally friendly gossip. First she did a pet friendly ad for PETA — one of those sexy ads that feature star celebs stripped to the buff. The controversial ad campaign shows off the models famous faces with the tag line “I’d rather go naked than wear fur.” Now Khloe Kardashian is pledging she will be looking out for tigers in the future as one of her New Year’s Resolutions! She’s not exactly Leonardo DiCaprio in a dress and stiletto heels quite yet (as he actually founded his own tiger protection foundation) but she’s making progress.
TMZ reports that Khloe Kardashian sent out a relatively innocent tweet on New Year’s Day, asking fans to text “tigers” to 20222. Doing so makes an automatic $10 donation to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), helping to save tigers worldwide. Unlike paid advertisements drawing on star power to promote goods, services, and even charity, the move by the green celebrity prompted more than 600 fans to donate within just two days, raising over $6,000 for the WWF.
A rep for the World Wildlife Fund said that the donation represented a significant surge in donations as compared to what they normally might expect over the same time period. And the rep added that Khloe wasn’t done just yet. The star celeb also adopted a tiger of her own and needled momager Kris Jenner into doing the same. Was this her only New Year’s resolution? We don’t care. Way to go, ladies! Doing good deeds to win you free press rather than relying on Kim Kardashian’s latest celebrity scandal to keep you all famous is a much better plan for continued success.
The WWF has said that the money raised by Khloe Kardashian will go to tiger research in the field. Scientists are attempting to better understand the habits and threats to these majestic beasts, in their own habitats, so the WWF and organizations like it can better protect the giant cats from the encroachment of (presumably) human city sprawl and poacher’s hunting threats. [The giant felines do pretty well against animal threats on their own, in this author’s humble opinion, if placed alone in a jungle in a one on one situation. But, between guns, animal traps, and deforestation the wildlife faces real starvation and bodily harm threats.]
But as happy as the WWF is to receive the free promotion from one of the Kardashian sisters, Khloe herself may be even happier to know that her fans really care and take her at her word when she asks them to reach out. Maybe her Twitter followers just needed a little prompting to figure out just what would make a good New Year’s resolution and ran with her suggestion when it seemed like the right thing to do.

Who needs Kim Kardashian? The coolest of the Kardashian sisters seems to be exactly the girl we’d suspect. The tallest one also seems to have the biggest heart — which shows in her loving relationship with Lamar Odom and her compassionate save the tigers heartfelt act.
