Oh, c’mon people. Enough already. Baby Blue Ivy Carter was born in a hospital in New York City and other mothers and fathers are still irritated that they were kept from their own loved ones because of security. When the press descended on the Lenox Hill Hospital, the security guards at the hospital and the staff security detail that travel with Beyonce Knowles and Jay Z had some quick decisions to make to keep the press away from the famous celebrity baby. Did they do the right or the wrong thing to stop people with camera phones from sneaking in to snap pics of newborn Blue Ivy?
Baby Blue Ivy, the new star celeb daughter of pop sensation Beyonce and hubby Jay-Z, already has her own security detail, reports the New York Daily News. And her birth put other hospital patient’s families on edge. For instance, a Bronx father complained that he missed several hours of his own newborn’s life after he and his wife were transferred to a sixth floor room in Lenox Hill Hospital, adjacent to the star celebrity couple. Angry and hoping to make money off interviews with the press, the New York daddy shared the following story about how the hospital staff and private security detail for the star celebs kept their baby and Beyonce away from the prying eyes of everybody.
“I couldn’t see her for three hours,” Ramirez, 25, grumbled on Monday.
“The security was just ridiculous. I felt like I was in a prison. There is way too much security,” he said, claiming he was detained in a waiting room.
Do you think some personalize autographed merchandise and free concert tickets might may things better for he and the baby he had to wait to see?
While the hospital says it is maintaining security with its own security staff, others complain that the celebrity couple’s own security detail is really running the show. Another man from Brooklyn is said to have been prevented by the private security detail from seeing his newborn premature twins, according to ABC.
“These are children with problems in intensive care and you’re just going to take over the hospital like you own it? All I want is an apology,” [38-year-old Neil Coulon] says.
Rumor has it that Beyonce and Jay-Z, though highly charitable humanitarians on most occasions, tossed a little weight around and paid $1.3 million to sequester themselves in an entire section of the hospital wing near the neo-natal intensive care unit. Hospital officials have denied that any payment was involved.
The New York Times reported:
A doctor who has often delivered babies at Lenox Hill said that two months ago he learned from obstetrical personnel at the hospital that a sixth-floor area previously used for medical observation before delivery had been cordoned off and was being rebuilt as a private suite, at no cost to the hospital. The physician, who insisted that his name be withheld, said that even at that time, the suite was rumored to be for Ms. Knowles.
We hope the green celebrity couple, known for their support of the Survivor Foundation, the Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation, Stand Up to Cancer, and other health related charities, is able to rest well away from the eyes of the paparazzi for a few days while Beyonce recovers. But we hope they aren’t intentionally putting out other patients as well.
Best of luck to both!
While we recognize that parents of the other kids at the hospital were disadvantaged momentarily, the bottom line is that those people will always be able to tell their children the story about the day they were born in the company of celebrities.
